lately, i've been a bit boring. i haven't watched many new films, due to the fact that the post office lost my movies. i've been working a lot and trying to finish the mass valentine's mailing i sent out.

i did watch david lynch's the elephant man the other night. i really liked it. the lighting was excellent and it was so sad. i finally went to i luv video with my friend jillian. i wanted to rent every movie i've never seen (which is A LOT.) i settled on one: chris marker's la jetee. i'm going to watch it later today.

the big apple.

today i bought a plane ticket to new york. i'm meeting my mom up there for a weekend vacation. i couldn't be more excited. moma, the guggenheim, the met, a henri cartier-bresson exhibit at ICP, the whitney, the list goes on and on. there is so much i want to do, but there is never enough time. that's the thing about nyc.

plus, a large number of my closest friends from college live in the city now.
it will be great to catch up and grab drinks with them also. maybe i'll
decide if i want to move there or not. part of me has always wanted to
live in new york, and part of me loves the quasi-city life of living in
a calm city such as austin.

and now an update on the films i've watched.

george washington
quinceanera
the proposition
conversations with other women

each one i loved in its own way. they were all very different. one an australian western and another one shot in split-screen. george washington is david gordon
green's first feature film, and it was just as beautiful as all his
other films. i love how he can take a single shot and transform it. his
stories are so real and close to the heart. that is what i love most
about him. quinceanera was a lovely coming of age story about a girl breaking out of her middle-class life.
